Jane, your Mother certainly did more than TRY to keep a dream alive - by some miracle she managed to DO it! When you think of all the obstacles she faced alone, I really don't know how she did it. Think of what the DQSC has been going through just the last couple of weeks - the MQ having problems on the Ohio, now the question about getting upriver to the Grand Excursion. With all this stuff happening, any profit to be made goes out the window. How many people do they have figuring this out? A lot more than Miss Letha had I bet - and I'm sure the problems were there for her also - high water, low water, etc. etc. maybe even a lot worse than today. When she did finally have to give it up, she steered it to the right people and the Delta Queen has overcome so many obstacles down through the years. Added to her responsibilities of course was her family of four children to care for and support. She truly performed a miracle in my mind.
