Hi, Judy, Don, Alan:
Interesting discussion on accents. The town of Frankfort, Michigan, on Lake Michigan reminds one more of an East coast fishing port than the Great Lakes. For years the famous BAKER'S BAR was next door to the marine union hall. A real hang out for the lake crews and officers. Frankfort was a port for the big lake ships carrying rail cars, cargo, passengers back and forth. The accents there caught my ear as being more like what you'd hear in Bristol, England. Reason? Many of the early mariners, boat builders, crew, engineers came from Great Britain. BAKER'S BAR was sold and gentrified some years ago and the old timers are slipping away all too quickly.
Cheers,
R. Dale Flick
