Capt. Doc Hawley told me that Benton's family owns the Brown Shoe Company, maker of Buster Brown and Roblee shoes. I think the family still lives on Edgewood Road in St. Louis. No one seems to know what became of Benton's huge steamboat collection. Benton's cousin, Hal Sanders, worked in the engineroom of the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE for several seasons.
