Alan: The credit for that elegantly lettered sign over the forward stairway on the BELLE must go to Capt. Mark Doty, artist and steamboat sign painter extraordinaire. I merely suggested the idea to Capt. Mike Fitzgerald back in 1985 and Mark, then mate, carried it out. At that time I also suggested that the railings on the Hurricane and Texas decks be painted red (a la Streckfus) instead of the dark blue and that was done as well. I do well to paint a wall, much less a sign! I was just the "idea man"!
