I'm new to this website, but it's so chocka-block full of great stuff that enjoy going into past years, and often find stories (like this one) that I wish to add to. Actually, I thought my comment would post in the achieves and not on the front page. This accident that destroyed 1/3 of the DQ's paddlewheel and left the monkey rudders sticking in the Indiana riverbank below the lock, was, as I said, a most interesting tale of teamwork and dedication to doing the nearly impossible in record time. Somewhere in my own "dusty boxes" I have already written about the events of that time, and when I find it I will share it to add to the historic record.
