Of course, the "Love" doesn't need any particular
explanation, but certainly the "news" does!! Our
"news" doesn't qualify as "system-wide impact", but for
us is so amazing that Some will remember, some will not
that I (Lillian) was losing sight from the one eye that
Paul and I "shared" as we met many of you and learned
to LOVE steamboatin"!!! So - at the risk of boring
many of you (just shut us down!!) - we would like to
share a MIRACLE with you!! After our mid-July cruise
on the MQ, I went to the Ophthalomogist at the Duke
University Eye Center who has been following my
condition, including the cataract that was developing
3-4 yrs ago. Finally, after our last Steamboat Cruise,
the decision was made - the time was SOON; the only
minor delay would be in obtaining an implant based on
my level of my vision pre-op. Well, on Aug 19 I went
to my appointment; had the prescribed surgery, and came
away from that from an almost life-long acuity level in
the only eye I had of about 20/200 (clinically blind!!)
without corrective lenses to a reading this past
Tuesday - my "one-week" follow-up - of 20/25 WITHOUT
GLASSES, THANKS TO THE IMPLANT THAT WAS DONE FOLLOWING
THE EXTRACTION OF THE CATARACT! We still have some
recovery weeks ahead, but hope that the stabilized
vision will be similar to what is currently being
experienced. I know; this is not of any particular
interest to all you wonderful dedicated steamboaters,
but we soon will be able to book our ANNIVERSARY CRUISE
(Dec 12) on the MQ - yes, we know of the love and
devotion to the DQ, which we share (but, we have been
on all three!!!) but this is a matter of our having to
choose a time that melds appropriately with other plans
we have. NOW - NEXT YEAR IS CLOSE UPON US!! All
suggestions are welcome, particularly from "seasoned"
steamboaters whom we have met - and oth
