It has been awhile since I have been on this site due to family illnesses. But with the upcoming opening of the musuem in Vevay the excitement in our family is bubbling. My mom just doesn't stop talking about it. She talks to everyone about the boats and my Great-Granddad (Grindong). My 12 year old son is just as excited. I am proud that this is the history that I will pass down through him. In the fall his class did a school musical called Steamboatin'. He did not want to do it at all. I couldn't figure out why. I mean Mom did have an argument with his music teacher over how river folk should dress. But there was something else. Well, we went to see the musical. Wellll, my mom almost had a duck right there. My son was so embarrassed because he knew that the way the riverboats and people were being depicted was not the way it actually was. I took the pictures and the model of the Boaz to school that we have and talked to the entire 6th grade about my Great Granddad and the history of the river. Those kids were so into it because they had gone down to Tall Stacks. Several of them approached my son and said that the way the musical was was wrong. The music teacher sat in the back and never approached me or my Mom. We can hardly wait for the opening. If we could go camp out in Vevay we would but the weather is too cold.
