Subject: Re: 1979 Delta Queen Presidential trip/ found letter from Grandma Zahn

Thanks for sharing that letter from your grandmother. It brought back a lot of memories for me. Your grandmotherís impressions were just as I have remembered them all these years. The Carter family left favorable impressions with everyone they met, passengers and crew alike. It was particularly interesting to hear your grandmotherís original concerns about traveling with the President and then later being comfortable and pleased with the experience. I had the same original concerns when it was announced that the President was going to take a cruise. My first comment was ďIím taking vacation. I donít want to be anywhere near this boat with that mess going on.Ē It turned out to be the easiest trip our Purserís Office staff had to deal with. All our usual problems were handled by people like the President of the DQSC and other high muckity-mucks. It turned out to be an experience of a lifetime just like it was for your family and all the other passengers. The Delta Queen Steamboat Company was duly proud of the way they hosted the President of the United States and his family.
