Subject: Re: Delta Queen not a Greene...? Fred Way Writes:

I recalled seeing the name game for the DQ in either Fred Way's book or Miss Letha'a book. After some speed reading I found the following.

On page 40 of his book "The Saga of the Delta Queen", Fred Way writes of time spent on the Delta Queen while she was still in layup in Suisun Bay : "Tom (Greene) got to speculating up there in the pilot house 'I'm of a mind to change her name on the Mississippi - to conform with the Greene Line custom - some name with Greene in it.' Fred continues: "We toyed with idea of putting an extra 'e' in Greenland to make it Greeneland. 'How about Paris Greene or Gangrene?' he (Tom) suggested. We had a heck of a good time by ourselves on the boat that afternoon, and ate sandwiches we brought along, and drained a thermos of steaming coffee"
