Subject: Re: Newburgh, IN

The note from Laura Roth prompted me to write. I am a native of Newburgh now living too far away from the river. I remember the days in the early 70's when the DQ used to land at the foot of State Street and they would let everybody come on board to visit. I suspect that due to liability issues those days are past. My grandfather used to sell roof coating to the boat, and as a result on several occasions my whole family would get to ride from Evansville to Newburgh or even Owensboro, KY. I cherish those memories, which include time in the pilothouse and a chance to get to meet Capt. Wagner. I look forward to the time when my work schedule (and my kids' schedule) will allow a trip on the DQ on the lower Ohio. I'd like to see the DQ stop in Evansville or Newburgh again. My heartfelt thanks to those who helped save the DQ once again, as well as her sister boats. Captain Wagner's spirit lives on in the lives of people like Capt. Mike--it is evident from his postings. It is also evident that many others have some river water in their blood like me.
