More details about the American Queen

September 13th, 2011

While the American Queen is being renovated at a shipyard in Louisiana, more and more details are being unveiled. Travelpulse reports that the Great American Steamboat Company is planning to include a pre-cruise hotel with all voyages as well as a shore tour in every port-of-call. Also there will be complementary wine and beer during dinner as well as bottled water and softdrinks throughout the cruise. The staterooms will be ecquipped with coffee brewers and will feature Starbucks coffee.

Different to previously, the attire on board will be elegant-casual, but no formal-wear will be required, according to the company’s website. Delta Queen Steamboat Company and Majestic America Line always required formal attire at a formal night gala dinner. On the other hand, the familiar concent of Riverlorians (lecturers) on board will be revitalized.

Schedules and itineraries are supposed to be published within 7-10 days from now and will – not surprisingly – port stops at Memphis, New Orleans, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and St. Paul/Minneapolis. Fares will start at 995 Dollar for 3-night cruises and 1,995 Dollars für 7-night cruises.

According to Christopher Kyte, president of the Great American Steamboat Company, the renovation of the American Queen is almost exclusively about mechanical issues such as upgrading the engines to be more fuel efficient and updating the garbage disposal system. Some changes will apply to the Calliope Bar which is being modified to serve as an alternative dining venue serving sandwiches, burgers and ribs.
