The burning of the Steamboat General Slocum on New York's East River on June 15, 1904, was the second-worse disaster in New York's history before the 9/11 attacks. Author Edward T. O'Donnell obviously did a tremendous job in researching this horrible disaster by going through thousands of pages of archiv material and old newspaper articles. Mary Greene Stewart died peacefully at her riverfront farm in California, KY March 30, 2009. Mary is survived by her husband, Richard, son Joel Michael and five grandchildren: Harlequin, Morpheus, Blaise, Roman and Sterling. Also surviving Mary are brother's Gordon C. Greene, Tom Greene II and sister Letha Jane Greene.
