tiller line

The wire line extending from the tillers to the drum of the pilotwheel which, when moved, causes the rudders to change position, steering the boat. e. g. the Julia Belle Swain's tiller line is very obvious overhead on the main deck. You can watch it move back and forth with the turning of the pilot wheel.
