hurricane deck

On the usual packet this is the third deck naming them, in order upward, the main deck, boiler deck, and hurricane deck. Also called upward deck or roof. The name was derived from the ever-present breeze that made it a favorite viewing place on warm evenings. It was the location of the boat's large signal bell.
