combine towboat
One owned by the former Monongahela River Consolidated Coal & Coke Company of Pittsburgh which, formed in 1901, operated more than sixty steamers in its twenty years of existence. These boats, large and small, were recognized by the letters R. C. painted on the pilothouse sides. These initials stood for River Coal or River Combine.
