Go to the above website and read how the 203 FT long Chateaugay made the 100 mile journey, over land, from Lake Champlain in VT to become the S.S. Mt Washington on Lake Winnepesaukee in NH. I find the story interesting as I was told many years ago that my grandfather was involved in the process. I can neither confirm nor deny.
In the mid 1980's the Mount Washington was cut in half midship and a new 25FT section was added. She has morphed from a "S.S." to M/V to M/S. If you ever visit Lake Winnepesaukee, New Hampshire take a cruise on the Mount. Although she is no longer a steamboat the ride is beautiful, especially in the Fall.
