Live from just a few blocks from the levee

After 7 months I am finally back in New Orleans. I am on a protruding 4x6 balcony on the third floor of LeRichelieu, on the Barracks St side. Just flew in at noon, rode 2 trips, heard Matt Bubba Dow play the 5:30 calliope concert, and narrated the dinner trip during the Dukes' break. Spring break, so good crowds everywhere. Capts. Don Houghton and Troy C Delaney presided today. Troy and I have golf set up for Wednesday, should be interesting as I haven't played since December. I saw Doc sitting in the sun on his balcony as I drove over to retrieve my bike and golf clubs from the storage unit, but haven't talked to him yet. Busy river today, lots to narrate. Later this week I'll get a chance to visit the former CRI,now the CNO..This is a new iPad mini so I'm going to try to post pix, but considering how long it took to get signed on here, I don't know.. Capt. Matt Bubba Dow at the keyboard, a wind blown 'Grandma' observing. Not windblown enough to be upside down though..that's now on my second glass of wine on this small balcony !!

Thank you!

You know I've been waiting for this! I really appreciate the posts and the pictures. I also check the Natchez out on the web cam in the afternoon as she comes and goes (when it works). I'll keep checking for updates, thanks again.

Day 2 between the levees

A beautiful day, good crowd and congenial people and on a steamboat to boot! I spent the first trip out on the roof and missed the pilot house guests. But I caught up with them and also with CCH, as you'll see in the picture. Then to the golf course for 9 holes, a shrimp Caesar salad at Louisiana Pizza Kitchen, a favorite of Roddy and mine, and back to the boat for the dinner cruise, which I narrated on the down-bound. It got cool enough for a windbreaker tonight. A land oddity here in the city of famous restaurants and chefs: the front desk clerk phoned this a.m. And said the manager had eaten one of my cookies for the first time and wanted my recipe! Now to the picture: that is Capt. Dave Williamson now of Magnolia Marine, but former DQ, MQ, AQ mate talking with Doc, who had been signing his book in the office, but who wandered over for lunch on the boat. Oh yes, a Dutch schooner is docked at Bienville, failed to get a pix today.

It's snowed here today.

...Windbreakers....

For those that might be wondering, "Doc' co-wrote the book with Kerry McCafferty whom also took most of the photos that fill up the coffee table book's pages. The full title is "Steamboat NATCHEZ, New Orleans & The History of Mississippi River Steamboats." It was first published last year, and in my opinion is well worth the $29.00 price tag!

No Natchez today, as I played golf on the Westbank, then had dinner with Doc. I've actually spent some time in my hotel room tonight too. While Doc dines at fine old establishments with Frank, we have always done the dives, from Ruby Reds to Rocky and Carlo's. since last summer we have frequented a BBQ place in Bywater, called The Joint. That it is, but with great food. Pix 1 is from my little 3rd floor balcony looking up Barracks. Doc's place is the tall brick on the right in the background. Pix 2 is looking toward the river. The green building at the end is the Gov. Nic wharf. Pix 3 is Doc in the ambience of The Joint. Tomorrow I'm heading to the shipyard to see the former CRI, now the CNO. Ok this is a new one, no clue why pix posted upside down. Sorry but I've spent enough time trying to get resigned on, not going to fool with this. They are posted correctly on Facebook, if you can't stand on your head!,,

A water hazard we encountered today, not on the river.

It looks like a dark and stormy day approaching.

After 3 beautiful days it looks like the weather is turning. Here's the view from my balcony as I eat a ham and cheese croissant from the bakery down the street. On the agenda today is a visit to the former Casino RI, now being renovated by New Orleans Steamboat into a dinner/charter boat. Then a 2:30 Natchez trip, followed by dinner at Jack Dempsey with Matt Dow. Sorry but again the pix is posting upside down, no clue why or how to correct this.

Many (I'm sure) not responding to your posts, but we're enjoying them, even if we do have to stand on our heads to see the pix. Anxiously awaiting pix of the CITY OF NEW ORLEANS!
