Default Happy 79th, CCH!

While he isn't a steamboat, he is certainly the ultimate 'Steamboats and History' we have today: Capt. Clarke Campbell Doc Hawley is celebrating his 79th birthday today. Celebrating probably isn't the word, more like observing or even ignoring, but at any rate, today is his natal day. Lunch at Galatoire's on Bourbon St. will most certainly be on his agenda at some point this weekend, and of course he'll be playing the NATCHEZ' calliope on Sunday morning. I've been listening to his calliope music since 1952 and have been privileged to know him since 1978, was able to work on his NATCHEZ crew for 11 years, and have spent many a mealtime with him at such fine New Orleans establishments such as Ruby Reds, Deanies, Port of Call and Rocky and Carlo's - not exactly 5 star tourist eateries! So even though he is not connected to this medium, here's to a great day for our "Old Man River" who is still young at heart!
