Default Today at the 1854 Plumas shipwreck.

Today, we were able to gain access and spend an hour at the 1854 “Plumas” shipwreck location. Time was very limited as we had to search for the grist mill and cabin site of a local gold rush pioneer, Peter Lassen. We only flipped our overloaded canoe once on the way in and remained rather upright the entire way out.

The Plumas site was probed and at the site at a level of 7 and 9 feet, a layer of sand was found. At the 1850 “California” site, the sand was related to something of the level of the shipwreck.

We continued probing and we moved to what we assumed to be aft. On our last probe, we hit a solid object and broke the probe. Depth was 12 feet and it had a metallic ring. Still not conclusive. We will return and do a systematic search in the future.
