Default Arabia Museum, Port of Kansas City

After traveling 700 miles one way so my husband could get a TWIC and then renew his license, we took time to visit the Arabia Museum for the first time. It apparently has evolved through the years and is no longer under a grocery store. In fact, it is absolutely fabulous. Restoration of the thousands of items they rescued from the wreck is ongoing. And thousands of items are on display, not to mention vital parts of the boat itself, arranged as they would have been on the Arabia. One engine and paddlewheel are in motion. Only the wood in the paddlewheel is reproduced. Everything else, even the pitman, is original. The doctor pump can be motivated by pushing a button. I suggested on the guest register that they have some steamboat sound effects. That would be the only thing lacking. It was worth the price of admission just to see that big paddlewheel going around.
