JFB Steamboat Prints
J. Franklin Brown's steamboat prints show up in many shops, some of them matted and framed and often with a large price tag on them. Mr. Brown passed away in the early 1970's. His drawings were released as 16 x 20 prints on heavy paper stock, as well as on notepaper, etc. At the Howard Steamboat Museum in the late 1960's we sold them for $5 each.
In recent years I have seen them priced from $25 to $165, but I have seen many of them remain in antique malls unsold for years. The Howard Museum has been the recipient of a number of them, discarded from private collections. Although nicely framed these prints are often yellowed and faded and many of them bring only flea market prices.
It really is a buyer's market for the prints.
