Mark Twain and George Westinghouse
After reviewing several suggestions on research of Mark Twain, I find he was a close friend on Nikola Tesla a well known business associate of George Westinghouse of Pittsburgh. He also had a close friend name Thomas Fitch, a lawyer who defended Doc Holliday. The historian for Doc Holliday was John Myers Myers.
The Fitch name is a well known riverboat family in Pittsburgh. John Fitch was a well known steamboat designer on the level of James Rumsey and Robert Fulton. The Myers name is also another rather well known Pittsburgh riverboat family. Jacob Myers started the very first scheduled riverboat service out of Pittsburgh Oct 14 1793 to Louisville KY. This service was carried in an ad printed in the Pittsburgh Gazette.
Again I am looking for known connections of Mark Twain to any Pittsburgh families designing and building riverboats. Several old records suggest a connection to the Cartwright family of Cartwright Station Kentucky near the Myers Iron Works at Slate Creek. The Myers Iron Works was owned by the Breckinridge family of Senator John Cabell Breckinridge. I believe the Cartwright family moved to Virginia City via New Orleans on a land grant given by General John C Fremont.
The Westinghouse Company, a well known and major color TV set maker in the late 1950's, finance the making of a weekly color TV series Sunday night of Benjamin Cartwright and this three sons. It was one of two or three color TV shows broadcasted weekly in the early 1960's on NBC. None of the other stations ABC or CBS carried color. An actor named Howard Duff played Mark Twain in Virginia City.
