Default S.S. BADGER

In the Spring edition of Power Ships, the house journal of The Steam Ship Historical Society of America a small article appeared that the request for Federal funding to convert the Lake Michigan car ferry BADGER (S.S. Badger) from steam to diesel was denied. Also the EPA granted exemption that allows her spent coal cinders to be dumped in the lake expires after next year's season. Perhaps the EPA can extend the exemption, but as we all too well know, there are no guarantees from Uncle Sam. Otherwise the cinders will have to be saved for off-loading in Ludington, MI; Manitowoc, WI; or both.

If a Great Lakes crossing has been pondered, now is certainly the time. The future is certainly unclear.
