Another NEW River Book Release
Joining Capt. Charlie Lehman's dandy new book, A Riverman's Lexicon - In Lehman's Terms, is another new volume just off the press in time for Santa to deliver to your landing. Historic Photos of Steamboats on the Mississippi, by Dean Shapiro, is available from Amazon and other book dealers. For the book's debut, Turning Pages, a shop in Natchez, hosted a signing party for the author last week.
Dean Shapiro grew up on the Hudson River, but now lives in Gretna, Louisiana, where he has been inspired by hearing the calliope on the Str. NATCHEZ. The hardcover book of 216 pages lists for $39.95, but is currently available for less than $30 on the Amazon site.
There are several other books in this HISTORIC PHOTOS series, including one on Mississippi by Anne McKee and another chronicling the construction of the Gateway Arch at St. Louis by Nini Harris. I have these and both are very well done, containing many river scenes. Have also seen listings for similar volumes in the series on Baton Rouge, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Louisville, etc.
