Default Calliope Capers Continued!

As this is written, Dubuque's father-son steamboat buff dynamic duo of David and Jonathan Tschiggfrie are on the road AGAIN and "out there somewhere" in their continuing quest for historical information and images of steam calliopes. Their intinerary included a stop this week at Marietta, Ohio to see the instrument from BRYANT'S SHOWBOAT which is exhibited in the Ohio River Museum.

Herewith are several images of the calliope:
(1) In the "old" River Museum when in the basement of Campus Martius Museum - prior to 1974.
(2 & 3) The late Betty Bryant with calliope at Ohio River Museum - Sept. 1995. Betty's mother, Josephine Bryant, was the showboat's calliope player and it was a very poignant experience to hear Betty's remembrances as she slowly ran her hands over the brass keyboard.
