Goldenrod Showboat Centennial

There is an interesting article regarding the 100th birthday of the GOLDENROD SHOWBOAT on a website called Ecology of Absence. The article is accompanied by several sad photos of the boat rotting down at her landing in Kampsville, Illinois.

Click on Ecology of Absence: Goldenrod Showboat Celebrates its Centennial to access the article.

Herewith are a few more vintage views.
(1) Capt. Bill Menke in his office aboard the GOLDENROD - 1950.
(2) GOLDENROD underway towed by the CROWN HILL.
(3) GOLDENROD and towboat ECLIPSE.

Keith, Just curious what happened to the towboat ECLIPSE just wondering where it ended its days or if by some chance it was still around somewhere?
Thanks Wayne

Wayne: According to Way's Towboat Directory, the ECLIPSE (which towed the GOLDENROD between 1914-1917) was towing a gasoline barge out of Pittsburgh, for Atlantic Refining Company, on the night of December 8, 1917, when she struck the dike at the foot of Neville Island. The sinking caused a stove to overturn and the boat burned, with the crew escaping in yawls.
