Vintage RIVER QUEEN brochure
Thought some of you might be interested in this vintage brochure and post card advertising the RIVER QUEEN, formerly the GORDON C. GREENE and originally built here at Jeffersonville in 1923 as the CAPE GIRARDEAU for the Eagle Packet Company of St. Louis. After retirement in 1952 the boat was at Portsmouth, OH for a brief time named SARAH LEE, then at Owensboro, KY as THE STERNWHEELER (during which time a movie "The Kentuckian" was filmed on Green River) and then to Bradenton, Florida. The boat was a "bust" as a tourist attraction there and it wasn't long before she was sold and taken to New Orleans. Again, there wasn't enough interest to pay the bills and she next ended up at Hannibal Missouri, remaining there until March of 1964. She finally "went home" to St. Louis, where she was a popular restaurant, moored just above the Eads Bridge. But, alas, she sank on December 2, 1967 and that was her doom.
