An unknown vessel?
Fellow Steamboaters,
Have been doing some research on early steamboats and the men who worked then on the western rivers. In the process came across the probate court records of Capt. Stephen Shallcross who died in St. Louis in 1837. Among these papers is one (see attached file) that notes that he purchased an interest in the steamboat Belle of Missouri for paid five thousand dollars. The problem is I can't find this vessel in the Lytle-Holdcamper list or its three supplements, could it be an unknown vessel? I found that Shallcross ran vessels on the Missouri in 1835 he was master of the St. Charles and owned an interest in the Boonslick that same year.
