Default Some not-so-ancient history

Here, apropos of nothing at all, are some photos from the not too distant past (i.e. mid- and late-1990s). All are glimpses of "what used to be," and hopefully will be again.

The first clearly, is the Delta Queen's Lunkenheimer when it was affixed (properly) to the old stack jacket. This photo inspired a grade-school art class painting of mine - to this day I still couldn't use watercolors to save my life.

Second and third are images of the Mississippi Queen headed northbound out of Lock and Dam 11 in Dubuque. Many things have been said about the MQ's questionably aesthetic appeal, but let it also be said that when the Sun strikes the boat at the right angle while she's steaming through the bluffs of the Upper Mississippi, she does bring to mind the grand passenger vessels of yore.

Stay tuned for some dug-up calliopes photos and new videos, too!
