Default Packet KATE HOWARD

Way No. 3230: Are there any extant photographs of this boat? Way relates the story of W. W. Hilliard "as clerk on her first Missouri River trip and that a calliope was placed aboard for the occasion. The natives were of course astonished and the instrument was in such lively demand that Hilliard in desperation poured molten lead over the keys to get relief."

Not sure what this thread will turn up. The years listed for the KATE HOWARD are 1857-1859, not long after the advent of commercially successful photography. Maybe this thread could start discussion of the many boats to bear this illustrious family's name.
