Hello - I am an elementary music teacher in Seymour, Indiana - year # 36 coming up soon. I am also a composer, especially musicals for my elementary students. I market some of them and I have been pretty successful. I have been commissioned to write a 2-act Broadway-style musical for Madison Indiana's Bicentennial to be performed in October, 2009. The musical will cover the years from 1809 - 1909. I have most of the lyrics for the 24 songs in the show completed - soon I will be composing the music and orchestration.
I have one scene in the second act where a showboat has come to town like they used to in Madison. What would you expect to see in such a scene? What would have been the likely kind of acts in such a show? I am thinking of a "mini variety show" within the act. I am open to any suggestions that any of you might have for me. Soon I will be opening a web site about the musical -

Thanks for any help you can give to me.
