Default Interesting Find

Yesterday I was at Howards looking through an old scrapbook that someone had donated to the museum and in it was an atricle from the Waterways Journal dated Dec. 6, 1941. The head line read: Destined for the Mississippi? and under the headline was a two column picture of the DELTA QUEEN. The jist of the article was that some southern business men had offered the owners of the DQ & DK to pay for the trip if they would bring the boats to the Mississippi. A Mr. Speight, a spokesman for the owner, said they we ready to RUN the boats to the Panama Canal and when they reached the canal, they would decide whether to head for the Mississippi or "head elsewhere".
As we all know, the next morning, December 7, 1941, the whole world changed.
