Default Explosion of the St. Nichols, 1859

Hello,
As a family genealogist I recently discovered my 2nd great uncle, Benjamin Glime, was killed when the steamer St. Nicholas blew her boilers and exploded while on the way to New Orleans, on 24 April 1859. The boat was out of St. Louis, Missouri. He died two days after the disaster, and his wife Mattie died that night of drowning.

I am wondering if anyone can tell me where I might find more information on the St. Nicholas? I found an eye-witness account at Riverboat Dave's site, but would like a little more history on the steamboat itself.

Any information on Ben and Mattie Glime would be greatly appreciated. I've hit a brick wall in finding her maiden name.

Many thanks!
Cheers from Washington state
