Here's what I hope will be another thought provoking thread. We all know that hulls where/are made of wood, metal, etc. but when did these changes occur and what where the first boats to have iron and steel hulls? When did rivoting get phased out to replaced by welding. Were there boatyards like Kahlke and Howards who didn't switch over to "new and improved" materials? Does an iron hull hold up better then a steel hull? What river applications made more sense to use wood than metal? What's the wierdiest material a hull was ever made out of?
