Default Wondering about an uncle's job on the DQ

Is there any type of register for employees on the Delta Queen back in the 40's?
I am very curious what job an uncle did on there. I have heard a couple different stories but no one is left in the family that can confirm. We have pictures of him in the pilot house, in the old family album, so for the longest time I had thought he was a pilot. His name was Carl McCandless and even the date might be a little off it may have even been in the 30's thanks
