Default Question About Frieght Handling

This question parallels a previous question about cotton handling in New Orleans. Let's say the Kaye Bell Foundry in Louisville had a 1500 lb bell to ship to the Second Presbyterian Church in Wellsville, Ohio. The foundry would get the local teamsters to move the bell from the foundry to the L&C wharfboat for shipment on the CITY OF LOUISVILLE to Cincinnati. At Cincinnati they would off load the bell onto the L&C wharfboat. Now my question is...how did the bell get on a Greene Line boat to Wellsville. Did boats stop as several wharfboats in a city to pick-up and discharge freight? Or did the Wharfboat manager get the local teamsters to move the bell from the L&C wharfboat to the Greene Line Wharfboat??????
Anyone know? I don't.
