Default More QC Bell Pics

Click onto this link and then follow the next four pictures to see the QC Roof Bell as featured in the early 1900's. The "pic o' the week" photo was brought to light by the recent discovery of an oil painting by Donna Ashley, a Rising Sun, Indiana artist, who "made a painting" from this photograph of several ancestral ladies of her family snapped while aboard the QUEEN CITY for a long-ago summer outing.

Notice how the top of the bell was painted white, even away-back-when, the same as it was on the DQ until recently. Why the bell was shined-up is a mystery from this angle, but my humble opinion is it should have been left alone with its 100 year + coating of soft green patina. Wasn't this particular bell supposed to have been on the CITY OF ST. LOUIS with H. Bixby commanding; or is that just river legend?
