Default Steamboating Humor

This is a challenge for all of the "old" river men, those young in spirit and long on experience. As a young man who grew up on the river, I recall a humorous fable or fictional story about a really "mighty" steamboat. While I can no longer relate it in full I do recall several of the lines. Please bear with me.. one line was about the steam pistons being made of glass, another was the steamboat was so big "that the engineer had to take his lunch when he went to oil the wheel pitman." Does this ring any "bells" or am I only having a "senior" moment.

Best Regard,
Ed Ray
