Default What can we do right now--the clock is ticking

OK, the Senate Bill 1717 is supposed to be out of committee and onto the floor. What can we do to help it get posted for a vote, and what can we do about the house bill 1248, which apparently just got a new co-sponsor today, to get it out of committee?
The clock is counting down, not many days left in this session!!

The current session runs until December with a long recess in August. The Senate bill will go to the floor when the Majority Leader says so. Sadly, just because a bill is passed by the committee, there is no guarantee the bill is considered by the full Senate. In the House, we are at the mercy of the committee chair and the Speaker.

On site that I follow, https://www.govtrack.us gives the Senate bill a 29% chance of passing. not good numbers!

We need all our supporters to contact McConnell and ask him to move the bill to the floor for a vote. Folks from Kentucky should have the most influence.

The only way you'll get McConnell to act on this bill is to tell him Obama is against it, then he'll be all for it. He said his main job is to make sure that Obama fails, not represent the people of Kentucky.

Is the political post really necessary? It's not productive. McConnel's office has been very cooperative and receptive of the Delta Queen issue. The owners have been in touch with and met with his staff multiple times. It helps that one of the DQ's owners is a constituent and supporter of McConnel.

When it comes to scheduling, it may sit for a while then, get scheduled and voted on very quickly. As we saw in the house in 2013, there is little notice given before a vote. Same case on the recent Senate Committee vote.

You guys in Louisville (and KY) need to get industry leaders, the mayor and other politicians, the Governor and local tourism people to lean on McConnell. Remind him how the DQ's annual race with the Belle brings in money and the boat contributes to KY economy at Louisville, Henderson, Ashland, and Covington. It is difficult to email him without being a KY resident. If anyone knows him, phone him.

Once again I have called Rep. Sanford's office along with Sen. Scott and Sen. Graham. The response is similar we'll get back in touch. I held each staffer's feet to the fire this time explaining that is the answer I got when I called the other two times, the first being six months ago, and I'm still waiting the courtesy of a reply. Today I was promised that reply will come within 24 hours. We'll see, and I'll report back.

Maybe then we can get some press???

I called Rep. Sanford's office today and staffer James Braid returned the call. I can honestly say that Sanford's office is now aware of HR 1248 and the plight of the DELTA QUEEN. Also the phone call was very encouraging. No promises were made, but James Braid and Rep. Sanford's office has a firm grasp of the situation now.
