Steamboating colleagues:
'STACKS will be back in 2012' appears in the Sunday edition of THE CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, Jan. 16, 2011. Plans, proposals are solidifying to return the big river event to Cincinnati, Oct. 3 - 7, 2011, the first since 200. The lengthy piece with photos admits the 'seed money' of some $1.6 million is moving ahead with event promoters 'tweeking' local corporate sponsors. Boat schedules still need to be solidified along with added 'Music,
Arts, Heritage' events. Attending several small meetings in the past on my part were preliminary.

A related event called 'German Based World Choir Games' slated for July 4 -14 anticipated to draw 20,000 participants from around the world, plus 200,000 visitors. Each event has a $10 million budget with an estimated economic impact of $123.5 million. I'm a bit foggy on the separation of the Tall Stacks seed money of $1.6 million and the other quoted even budget of $10 million. Links with Tall Stacks to the 1811 appearance of the Str. NEW ORLEANS bicentennial mentioned along with a history of steamboating on the Ohio and the Cincinnati area. It will be interesting to see what cooperating boats will participate. Event planners admit to the logistic, schedule, planning, financing required. In the past a number we all know well from the late Nelson Jones, S&D/MOR members, Capt. Alan Bernstein to Capt. Bill Judd who served as port advisor here. Additional news in time as it appears. *For full details to date go to: cincinnati.com
