While the cargo business in the port of NOLA rebounded after Katrina, the cruise ship industry didn't return as rapidly. There was the perception that passengers wouldn't have any attractions to visit prior to sailing. Pre-K NOLA had 3 ships in weekly, and a third docking area was created at Poland Street for any overflow. One of the weekly ships was the huge CONQUEST of Carnival . Post-K, Carnival brought in a smaller ship on a weekly basis, but then it was spotty for other ships visiting. With this announcement of yet another large ship making weekly sailings out of the port, it bodes well for the city. Interestingly, the NATCHEZ gets quite a few of the pre or post cruise passengers, because they never get to see the NOLA harbor on the ship. When they depart Julia St, they run their mandatory fire and life boat drills, and the ships return in the middle of the night. So if anyone wants to see the NOLA harbor and skyline, its on the good old NATCHEZ.
