The "pic o' the week" photo was brought to light by the recent discovery of an oil painting by Donna Ashley, a Rising Sun, Indiana artist, who "made a painting" from this photograph of several ancestral ladies of her family snapped while aboard the QUEEN CITY for a long-ago summer outing.

Notice how the top of the bell was painted white, even away-back-when, the same as it was on the DQ until recently. Why the bell was shined-up is a mystery from this angle, but my humble opinion is it should have been left alone with its 100 year + coating of soft green patina. Wasn't this particular bell supposed to have been on the CITY OF ST. LOUIS with H. Bixby commanding; or is that just river legend?
