Default Str. Mississippi - Decommissioned April 19, 1961

Another steamboat anniversary today! The Str. MISSISSIPPI (#3) was decommissioned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Memphis on April 19, 1961. She was replaced by the diesel towboat MISSISSIPPI (#4) which has since been replaced by the fifth vessel of the name. The fourth MISSISIPPI, after years of languishing on the Yazoo, is slated to soon become part of a new riverfront museum at Vicksburg.

As most regular visitors to this board are aware, MISSISSIPPI #3 (1926-1961) has long been the restaurant/museum boat BECKY THATCHER, having been at St. Louis for many years and, since 1975, at Marietta, Ohio, where she is dark and for sale.

The attached photos are as follows: 1: Str. MISSISSIPPI in 1954 2: BECKY THATCHER at St. Louis in 1970 3: Wallbook page of photos and history of Str. MISSISSIPPI in Midship Museum aboard BECKY THATCHER at St. Louis.
