Default *RE: AMBASSADORS/WINDSTAR sailing ships*

Jeffery & Steamboating colleagues:
Your posting with the link on the money [No pun intended' RE: AMBASSADORS/WINDSTAR sail vessels: WIND SPIRIT, WIND STAR, WIND SURF. Other business E=Mails in over the last two days and it isn't a pretty picture. One provides a timeline for the company beginning in 1998 up to the present. Unfortunately the communique too long to quote here with (C) Copyright restrictions.

AMBASSADORS purchased WINDSTAR from CARNIVAL/HOLLAND AMERICA FOR $100,000,000. Beautiful sailing vessels all top of the line. I toured one last year docked next to us in Jamaica and was wowed. Shipping sources, agents lament the lack of sales/promotions/ads to sell the WINDSTAR product with it just "dwindling away...directing potential bookings to other upscale vessels like CRYSTAL CRUISES, SEABORNE Etc. All high end 'niche markets.' Sound familiar? "WINDSTAR was excellent when owned by HOLLAND AMERICA LINE but has been struggling ever since then" Not all specialist agree that the transfer to holding investment company WHIPPOORWILL a bad thing but, "...recommend that clients take out insurance in case of supplier default."

Another business link, "Cruise industry aims to wield greater influence on Capitol Hill" mentions a "$40 Billion a year industry in the U.S. "Influence over lawmakers in Washington" [i.e. Lobbyists] at: 80% from financial institutions, manufacturing and others. Travel and tourism comes in at less than 20%. "They [Washington] believe the travel industry is frivolous." I wonder where our much-touted new Secretary of Transportation stands in all of this? A lot of jobs linked to the water for people we know. Well, what do I know?
