Default Radio recollections

I used to live near the river, and monitored the marine frequencies. I recall once asking Capt. Wagner about what frequency a certain channel was, and he replied, "I dunno. I just turn the knob and it works!"

Another time, I heard the DQ (WA-4141) call Lock 46 at Owensboro, Ky. It was nighttime. Some poor kid answered the radio, and the guy on the DQ told him to have 5 gallons of neopolitan ice cream waiting for when they locked through in a short while. The kid had to explain to them that he couldn't just take off and go to the store, that he was on duty, but the guy on the boat said a passenger wanted some, and he was to have it ready! I doubt the passenger was satisfied that night! 8-)
