Recent happenings on the Delta Queen
Just an update on the Delta Queen as I know many of those who read this board are concerned about her. Recently a small group of past Delta Queen crew members met Harry Phillips and his team, at his request, to prepare the boat for the upcoming cold season. As a result a detailed plan on how to handle freezing temperatures in the unused spaces below decks was developed as well as any exterior piping that will also need to be protected. As the boat will continue to operate as a hotel during the winter, heat will be on in the cabins, even if unused to ensure all the plumbing stays good and warm.
All unused systems were cleared of any standing water and the machinery was inspected and lubricated to ensure its operational ability should that day come (hopefully sooner rather than later). Everything checked out and the boat is in good shape! All we need is that exemption and she could be made ready to sail.
A special thanks to Captain Phillips for being proactive on this issue and having us down there. As we all fight the bitter cold this winter, we can rest assured knowing our Queen is being well tended to!
