First of all, for those of you who haven't written, phoned, emailed or faxed, there is still time to address this with the House Leaders. See
www.save-the-delta-queen.org for contact information.
Next, it's spring time and steamboats are plying our rivers again. Things will be hopping in Louisville soon. And we need HELP!
On the calendar first is Thunder Over Louisville, which is a spectacular fireworks show after dark on April 12th. However the activities start in the afternoon with an Airshow. What does this have to do with the DELTA QUEEN? Well, there are estimates that around 50,000 folks show up for these events. What better way to work a crowd and get signatures on petitions to SAVE THE DELTA QUEEN. I'm looking for volunteers in the afternoon to ask folks to sign the petition. Just bring your water bottle, sunscreen, and a couple ink pens. I'll provide the petitions. Contact me if you live in the Louisville area and would like to help.
Race Day: April 30th in Louisville. WOW! What fun. There is planned a Calliope Contest at 3:00 followed by Tea with the QUEEN at 3:30 on the Great Lawn. I don't have details about the Tea yet, but we need all the supporters we can get to show up in force and let the world know how much we love our QUEEN. We will be contacting the local media and hope they show up in droves to cover the events. Several DELTA QUEEN fans have tickets to ride the BELLE of CINCINNATI. I'll have petitions in hand that day as well. Hope to see you there.
Next, Majestic America Line is planning events at different locations on the DELTA QUEEN's route this summer. Dates I have so far are: Pittsburgh May 10th and Madison, Indiana June 8th. The event is scheduled to take place an hour or so before departure. Hopefully these will also bring much needed media attention.
The DELTA QUEEN needs our support. Hope you're able to help out.
