ATTENTION STEAMBOATER'S:
Let's try to get as many DQ people as we can down to the Landing on Race Day, to support the Legendary Lady! (It's our turn to win, you know.) A good view of both boats in the race can be had from the BOC, which is fairly inexpensive to ride. Also, suggest the purchase of a Save the Delta Queen t-shirt for just $10 - available at Franz's store on this site. Buy one and wear it on Race day. One word of advice - they run VERY large, so buy a shirt one size smaller than you usually do.
Hopefully we'll get some media coverage for a change. My first Race was 5 years ago on the DQ, and I remember reading in the Louisville paper that they didn't bother to give it much coverage any more as they said: "watching a steamboat race is about as exciting as watching paint dry". They cut back in covering the Race, since no one seemed to have much interest any more.
A media person aboard for the Race could not understand why we enjoyed going SO SLOW and were having so much fun. We all know how hard it is to explain our love for a steamboat.
