resolutions

I would like to see some of the resolutions that have been made or passed by the different cities on the river. I would like to send something to the state polititions in an effort to get states to let the DQ sail on their waters.

Beau,

Glad to find you on here...haven't seen you since the 2006 season on the DQ, welcome!

Since the DQ has to have USCG (United States Coast Guard) approval, and since she operates on an exemption from the SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) rulings, I don't think there is any way a State, in and of itself, could certify the vessel to run with in its boarders. Unless the waterway was a non-Federally operated (read: State) waterway. We have nothing of this sort in Kentucky. All of the waterways (well, the ones big enough to float her) in Kentucky are Federally operated...like Lake Cumberland, Lake Barkley, and Kentucky Lake.

Texas has a few lakes deep enough...but, not enough length to make it worth her operation. I think some of the larger lakes in New York might be the ticket you are shooting for. However, she would have a rather short seaon operation up there and harder than these rivers to make a profit with.

Still, good idea if we can find the perfect body of water and situation! What about Lake Mead out in California/Nevada? I am sure others better educated on the prospects of this and other possible waterways will chime in. Each idea that comes off of this board is a good one. They help us think outside of the proverbial box and ultimately I think we all know the combined effort will help us achieve our goal to...Save the Historic Steamboat DELTA QUEEN!

David Vrooman has a resolution posted with in this thread he and Mayor John Lewis of Bridgeport, AL have used. It was a template for the one Grandview, Indiana used when I talked to the Town Council about it back last fall. Look and I am sure you will find it buried on here.

Beau --

If you go back to page three of this message board's thread list, you'll find the thread "Sample Resolutions" (last reply 9-27-07). It contains copies of resolutions by both John Lewis and Jim Armstrong.
