SOLAS - some facts and details

I did some research about SOLAS and just posted an article about it at save-the-delta-queen.org: What is Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)?

What I couldn't find is the full text of the Safety at Sea Act which is important to find out whether it includes this 50-passengers limit that is being discussed here before. The International Convention Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), which is not relevant for the Delta Queen, has this 50-passengers limit. Maybe that's where this is coming from and not from the Safety at Sea Act from which the Delta Queen needs her exemption.

Franz, the complete SOLAS document (which I believes contains a substantial number of pages) is not online in its entirety, only in small sections. The entire document must be ordered from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) from their website. Unfortunately, they make it very difficult to find. For anyone wishing to purchase it, follow these instructions:

Go to www.imo.org. In the top menu, click the second to last item, Publications. In the middle of the page, click the link Online Ordering. In the left hand list, click the second item, Maritime Safety. The full 2004 SOLAS document is the first publication listed, and the further amendments and SOLAS documents are also available.

One more caveat: it runs for 65.00 GBP, which currently is about $132 USD. The amendments/regulations run 8-18 GBP, or $16-27 USD.

I stand corrected - went to your link about the "real" SOLAS. I still cannot find the full text of Public Law 89-777, but I have emailed several public/governmental officials on where to find the complete text.
